     From the Hotel Astor in New York City, the American Guild of Variety Artists pay a special tribute to Judy Garland at a luncheon, November 27, 1951, in praise of her reestablishing two a day vaudeville entertainment at The Palace Theater, premiering October 16, 1951. 

Host for this special occasion is Sol A. Schwartz, vice president of RKO owner of The Palace Theater. He negotiated Judy's vaudeville engagement with her manager and husband Sid Luft. 

Those giving testimonial speeches include master of ceremonies  Gorgie Price, President of The American Guild of Variety Artists,  Danny Kaye who states that Garland is the greatest talent we have in Show Business, and Ed Sullivan  who reminds every one present that such union tribute to a celebrity has not happened since World War 2. He mentions the first time he met Judy in 1936, and praises her for her current on stage performances. 
A telegram is read sent by Victor Riesel regretting his inability to attend. 

Martin Lacey, President of the Central Trades and Labor Council, AFL lends his hand at some of his esoteric humor and praises Judy for her accomplishments. 

A silver plaque is presented to Judy Garland from the AFL Theatrical Union for her ability to reestablish Vaudeville at the Palace theater. 

Garland thanks all who have attended this tribute to her. She states that this day has been the most wonderful of her life.

  From Hollywood NBC Radio pays tribute to Humphrey Bogart on the eve of his funeral, scheduled for the next day at noon.
 
Hosted by Bogart's long time friend, George Fisher who plays  excerpts of telephone recorded conversations he had with Bogart over the years. Heard, is a 1951 conversation of Bogart discussing the making of AFRICAN QUEEN...his relationship with  co-star Katherine Hepburn...a 1952 conversation discussing the  birth of his daughter, Leslie, the day before...a 1953 phone conversation about planning to do a fourth film with his wife Lauren Bacall...reminisces about his friendships with John Barrymoore, W.C. Fields, John Huston, John Dekker, Charles Butterworth, Mark Hellinger, Greta Garbo and Mike 
Romenoff. 

Other conversation touches on Bogart's love of Scotch and his own reputation of being a "character."

John Huston, who directed Bogart in five motion pictures, and life long friend, gives his own personal tribute to his pal "Boggie." He will be giving the eulogy at Humphrey Bogart's funeral tomorrow, January 17, 1957.                    

A special WCBS radio broadcast of the 1957 Tony Awards with host Bud Collyer. There was a television blackout of this special due to a union issue. 

Winners were "My Fair Lady" for the best musical play, Rex Harrison, for best musical actor in "My Fair Lady," Frederick March for the best dramatic actor, and Judy Holliday for best actress in "The Bells Are Ringing." 

NOTE:   Due to a union dispute, there was no television broadcast, which had been scheduled for WCBS-TV Channel 2.

Their tribute takes the form of 90 minutes of entertainment by Sid Caesar, Rosemary Clooney, Nat King Cole, Perry Como, Eddie Fisher, Betty Grable, Bob Hope, Harry James, Tony Martin, Dinah Shore, Frank Sinatra, Kay Starr, Danny Thomas, Jack Webb and Jane Wyman.
Some of these entertainers were discovered by Manie Sacks, all of them were helped by him during his years as a record-industry and television executive and all were his friends.                     

On this "Startime" presentation a modernized adaptation of "The Jazz Singer" by Samson Paphaelson. Jerry Lewis sings "Kol Nidre."

One of the most odd programming "series" scheduling known. Four episodes totaling 20 minutes. 

NOTE: Chubby Checker had the number one record THE TWIST on the Billboard Top 40 charts for 15 weeks beginning August 1, 1960.                                   

Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy takes CBS newsman Charles Collingwood on a Valentine's Day tour of the newly renovated White House. The special was broadcast by both CBS, NBC, and four days later by ABC. It's estimated that 80 million viewers watched the special which was also broadcast in other countries including Russia and China.             

Dave Garroway is the host for the third and final televised annual TV Guide Award broadcasts.
The Bob Hope Christmas show wins the award for the best variety show special.  Favorite Male Performer is Vince Edwards.
Favorite Female Performer is Carol Burnett.

George Abbott wins the Best Direction of a 
Musical award for "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum."

The third and final manned space mission of the United States Mercury Program launched on May 15th, 1963 at Cape Canaveral, Florida. The spacecraft, Faith 7, carried United States astronaut Gordon Cooper and completed 22 earth orbits before splashing down in the Pacific Ocean.               

Following his narrow victory over Doug Jones in Madison Square Garden in New York City, Cassius Clay (before he changed his name to Muhammad Ali) meets British heavyweight Henry Cooper at Wembley Stadium in London, England. Following a fourth-round knockdown in which Clay was nearly knocked out, he came back in the fifth round to score a TKO over Cooper as the referee stopped the fight.                         

A live discussion between former President Eisenhower in the US, Eden in London, Monnet from Brussels, and Von Brentano from Bonn-all via Telestar 11 and moderated by Walter Cronkite.                                                                 

A special 2 1/2 hour Today Show on the day of President John F. Kennedy's funeral in Washington, DC. Guest is Connecticut Governor Abraham Ribicoff.
