Scott Ellsworth was the creator and on-air host of the popular radio program, "SCOTT'S PLACE." It aired live on KFI-AM in Los Angeles, six times a week, from midnight to 4:00 am (MARCH 30, 1970 - APRIL 1, 1972). Over 500 unique broadcasts featured jazz and big band music, interspersed with live interviews with musicians, singers, composers, conductors, arrangers, band leaders, writers, music producers, dealers & promoters.

These guest artists would drop by the studio after midnight, quite often following work or performing, and would bring some of their favorite records or personal recordings to the show to play for Scott and his audience. They would talk about their career, reminiscing with anecdotes...their love of jazz and big band music.

Interviews averaged in length from one hour to four hours.

Scott was exceptional in his ability to draw together some of the finest artists and musicians representing the history of jazz music...many who were not known by name to the general public, but well know to the jazz community dating back to the 1920's, 30's,40's, and 50's.

The SCOTT'S PLACE theme music, "Have A Nice Day," played by Count Basie & his band, was composed and arranged by Sammy Nestico specifically for Scott, in July 1971. It was used permanently as Scott's theme music beginning in November 1971. 

Most of the lesser known legendary jazz artists who frequented the show did few, if any, talk shows in their life, making these candid conversations so valued since most of these individuals are now deceased.

Scott Ellsworth was the creator and on-air host of the popular radio program, "SCOTT'S PLACE." It aired live on KFI-AM in Los Angeles, six times a week, from midnight to 4:00 am (MARCH 30, 1970 - APRIL 1, 1972). Over 500 unique broadcasts featured jazz and big band music, interspersed with live interviews with musicians, singers, composers, conductors, arrangers, band leaders, writers, music producers, dealers & promoters.

These guest artists would drop by the studio after midnight, quite often following work or performing, and would bring some of their favorite records or personal recordings to the show to play for Scott and his audience. They would talk about their career, reminiscing with anecdotes...their love of jazz and big band music.

Interviews averaged in length from one hour to four hours.

Scott was exceptional in his ability to draw together some of the finest artists and musicians representing the history of jazz music...many who were not known by name to the general public, but well know to the jazz community dating back to the 1920's, 30's,40's, and 50's.

The SCOTT'S PLACE theme music, "Have A Nice Day," played by Count Basie & his band, was composed and arranged by Sammy Nestico specifically for Scott, in July 1971. It was used permanently as Scott's theme music beginning in November 1971. 

Most of the lesser known legendary jazz artists who frequented the show did few, if any, talk shows in their life, making these candid conversations so valued since most of these individuals are now deceased.

Scott Ellsworth was the creator and on-air host of the popular radio program, "SCOTT'S PLACE." It aired live on KFI-AM in Los Angeles, six times a week, from midnight to 4:00 am (MARCH 30, 1970 - APRIL 1, 1972). Over 500 unique broadcasts featured jazz and big band music, interspersed with live interviews with musicians, singers, composers, conductors, arrangers, band leaders, writers, music producers, dealers & promoters.

These guest artists would drop by the studio after midnight, quite often following work or performing, and would bring some of their favorite records or personal recordings to the show to play for Scott and his audience. They would talk about their career, reminiscing with anecdotes...their love of jazz and big band music.

Interviews averaged in length from one hour to four hours.

Scott was exceptional in his ability to draw together some of the finest artists and musicians representing the history of jazz music...many who were not known by name to the general public, but well know to the jazz community dating back to the 1920's, 30's,40's, and 50's.

The SCOTT'S PLACE theme music, "Have A Nice Day," played by Count Basie & his band, was composed and arranged by Sammy Nestico specifically for Scott, in July 1971. It was used permanently as Scott's theme music beginning in November 1971.

It aired live on KFI-AM in Los Angeles, six times a week, from midnight to 4:00 am (MARCH 30, 1970 - APRIL 1, 1972). Over 500 unique broadcasts featured jazz and big band music, interspersed with live interviews with musicians, singers, composers, conductors, arrangers, band leaders, writers, music producers, dealers & promoters.

These guest artists would drop by the studio after midnight, quite often following work or performing, and would bring some of their favorite records or personal recordings to the show to play for Scott and his audience. They would talk about their career, reminiscing with anecdotes...their love of jazz and big band music.

Interviews averaged in length from one hour to four hours.

Scott was exceptional in his ability to draw together some of the finest artists and musicians representing the history of jazz music...many who were not known by name to the general public, but well know to the jazz community dating back to the 1920's, 30's,40's, and 50's.

The SCOTT'S PLACE theme music, "Have A Nice Day," played by Count Basie & his band, was composed and arranged by Sammy Nestico specifically for Scott, in July 1971. It was used permanently as Scott's theme music beginning in November 1971. 

Most of the lesser known legendary jazz artists who frequented the show did few, if any, talk shows in their life, making these candid conversations so valued since most of these individuals are now deceased.

Scott Ellsworth was the creator and on-air host of the popular radio program, "SCOTT'S PLACE." It aired live on KFI-AM in Los Angeles, six times a week, from midnight to 4:00 am (MARCH 30, 1970 - APRIL 1, 1972). Over 500 unique broadcasts featured jazz and big band music, interspersed with live interviews with musicians, singers, composers, conductors, arrangers, band leaders, writers, music producers, dealers & promoters.

These guest artists would drop by the studio after midnight, quite often following work or performing, and would bring some of their favorite records or personal recordings to the show to play for Scott and his audience. They would talk about their career, reminiscing with anecdotes...their love of jazz and big band music.

Interviews averaged in length from one hour to four hours.

Scott was exceptional in his ability to draw together some of the finest artists and musicians representing the history of jazz music...many who were not known by name to the general public, but well know to the jazz community dating back to the 1920's, 30's,40's, and 50's.

Scott Ellsworth was the creator and on-air host of the popular radio program, "SCOTT'S PLACE." It aired live on KFI-AM in Los Angeles, six times a week, from midnight to 4:00 am (MARCH 30, 1970 - APRIL 1, 1972). Over 500 unique broadcasts featured jazz and big band music, interspersed with live interviews with musicians, singers, composers, conductors, arrangers, band leaders, writers, music producers, dealers & promoters.

These guest artists would drop by the studio after midnight, quite often following work or performing, and would bring some of their favorite records or personal recordings to the show to play for Scott and his audience. They would talk about their career, reminiscing with anecdotes...their love of jazz and big band music.

Interviews averaged in length from one hour to four hours.

Scott was exceptional in his ability to draw together some of the finest artists and musicians representing the history of jazz music...many who were not known by name to the general public, but well know to the jazz community dating back to the 1920's, 30's,40's, and 50's.

The SCOTT'S PLACE theme music, "Have A Nice Day," played by Count Basie & his band, was composed and arranged by Sammy Nestico specifically for Scott, in July 1971. It was used permanently as Scott's theme music beginning in November 1971.

Merle Haggard shows the talent it took to win the industry's Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year awards as he hits the concert circuit with his wife Bonnie and the Strangers.

Merle Haggard, country's music "Okie from Muskogee," is the subject of an intimate profile on NET's Fanfare. Titled, "And Now, All the Way from Bakersfield, CA, Merle Haggard," the program enacts the drama prior to the Country Music Association awards in Nashville. At these ceremonies, Haggard emerges as the country music "entertainer of the year," top male vocalist, and performer with the best single record and single album. Merle Haggard the performer is seen in wide-ranging concerts from Providence, RI to Pueblo, Colorado, and many of his best-known songs are contained in the hour program ("Okie from Muskogee," "Fightin' Side of Me," "Mama Tried," "Working Man's Blues," "Mama's Hungry Eyes," "Today, I Started Loving You Again," and "Branded Man." Through these songs and through Haggard's comments the program seeks to define him in human and in social terms. His youthful vagabond life is suggested when he sings of his wild oats ("Mama used to pray my crops'd fail") and of his prison years("In spite of Sunday learning, I turned 21 in prison"). His current popularity is delineated in scenes with his admirers we 're your fans, we all love ya," shouts a woman outside the auditorium in Hartford, Conn. "Oh my goodness, oh my gosh," replies Haggard.

Scott Ellsworth was the creator and on-air host of the popular radio program, "SCOTT'S PLACE." It aired live on KFI-AM in Los Angeles, six times a week, from midnight to 4:00 am (MARCH 30, 1970 - APRIL 1, 1972). Over 500 unique broadcasts featured jazz and big band music, interspersed with live interviews with musicians, singers, composers, conductors, arrangers, band leaders, writers, music producers, dealers & promoters.

These guest artists would drop by the studio after midnight, quite often following work or performing, and would bring some of their favorite records or personal recordings to the show to play for Scott and his audience. They would talk about their career, reminiscing with anecdotes...their love of jazz and big band music.

Interviews averaged in length from one hour to four hours.

Scott was exceptional in his ability to draw together some of the finest artists and musicians representing the history of jazz music...many who were not known by name to the general public, but well know to the jazz community dating back to the 1920's, 30's,40's, and 50's.

The SCOTT'S PLACE theme music, "Have A Nice Day," played by Count Basie & his band, was composed and arranged by Sammy Nestico specifically for Scott, in July 1971. It was used permanently as Scott's theme music beginning in November 1971. 

Most of the lesser known legendary jazz artists who frequented the show did few, if any, talk shows in their life, making these candid conversations so valued since most of these individuals are now deceased.
