Ron Cochran, a former television and radio newsman worked with
CBS and ABC as a television anchor news journalist.
In the early 1960's, Cochran was an early evening news anchor for the ABC network, most remembered for covering the ABC TV network news related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, November 22, 1963.

Previously, he was the host of ten minute evening news programs, Monday thru Saturday on WCBS-TV in New York from 1954 to 1960.

A report on game 6 of the 1956 World Series in which the Dodgers tied the fall classic at three games apiece. Jackie Robinson's final base hit of his Major League career wins the game 1-0, in the 10th inning, for Brooklyn. President Eisenhower attacks presidential candidate Adlai Stevenson for discussion of the hydrogen bomb halt and his plan to end the draft.                                       

Israelis advance into Egypt within eighteen miles of the Suez Canal. Tension in Washington as Eisenhower conducts an emergency meeting with top chiefs, press secretary Hagerty says the United States will assist in reconciling Middle East problems, Elvis Presley receives a polio shot, Maria Callas appears in Metropolitan Opera House season opener, Former New Jersey Govenor Walter Edge dies, Hungary says Russia will begin withdrawing troops from Budapest but fighting continues. There is a Piels Beer commercial featuring the voices of Bob Elliott and Ray Goulding.                                                                                                       

Highlights include an ultimatum to Israel and Egypt to stop fighting, developments in the UN, Russians willing to discuss withdrawal and evacuation of its forces from Budapest. England and France decided to move troops and naval forces into Suez. Premier Nagy discusses political freedom, presidential campaigns continue.  
A waiter working at the Waldorf Hotel in New York City is indited for income tax evasion.                                                               

Israel plans to shoot down nine Egyptian planes, Great Britain sinks an Egyptian frigate, British and French bomb Egyptian airbases, the UN secretary votes to call the General Assembly into session, Adlai Stevenson declares Eisenhower's foreign policy bears heavy blame for Middle East crises, most Russian forces have left Budapest.                                                                

Israel accepts UN ceasefire terms as fighting ceases, fierce fighting in Budapest as Russians pour into the city, Stevenson speaks of Ike's health issues, claims Nixon will be President if Ike wins.                                                   

Highlights: The death of bandleader Tommy Dorsey, The UN votes $10 million dollars to support the Suez operation, Russia says it will decline payment, Kadar may bring Nagy into government as a minister, Hungarian refugees arrive in the United States meet with President Eisenhower in Washington, newsman indicted for contempt of Congress regarding Communist background.                                      

The UN condemns Russia on Hungary, the Security Council votes to admit Japan to UN General Assembly, sporadic fighting in Budapest, Hungarian refugees brought to the USA, 9500 Hungarians to come to the United States, Vice-President Nixon to fly to Austria to seek aid for Hungarian refugees.

Highlights: Admiral Richard Byrd, explorer, dies, Egypt defies the UN on the Gaza Strip, a new aviation speed record by a 707 jet across the United States is set at three hours and 45 minutes, David Beck will appear as a witness in the Senate Labor Rackets Committee, news of the first outdoor phone booth.                         

Highlights: Three Americans join Cuban revolutionaries and want to fight for freedom against Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista, Vice-President Nixon is ill, the Senate investigation committee claims teamster president David Beck misused union funds, two New York City newspapers The Daily Mirror and The New York Daily News raise their prices to five cents.            

Highlights: The United States investigates teamster union boss David Beck on misappropriation of union funds, Arkansas Senator John McClellan questions a former teamster officer on violent union activity in Scranton, Pa,              

Highlights: Scientists find that heavy cigarette smokers have a higher death rate than non-smokers, investigators find a high relationship between cigarette smoking and lung cancer, doctors renounce H-tests because of fallout, City Hall meeting with New York City Mayor Robert F. Wagner on the question of Dodgers move to the West Coast.                       

Highlights: The government will legally try to remove National Guardsmen from blocking integration in Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, a new school is dynamited in Nashville, Tennessee, Klu Klux Klan member John Kasper is arrested, racial violence in other areas, minister Fred Shuttlesworth is beaten while leading an integration rally in Birmingham, Alabama, Govenor Nelson Rockefeller will try to keep the Dodgers in Brooklyn,                                                                

Highlights: Senators urge congressional investigation on US position in satellite program, Secretary of Defense Charles Wilson calls Red Satellite a "neat scientific trick", Khrushchev says manned planes are obsolete due to the development of missiles, Sputnik radio signals go dead, Soviet spy Jack Sobel sentenced to seven years in prison, Brooklyn Dodgers to move to Los Angeles. 

NOTE:  On August 19, 1957 Horace Stoneham and the Board of Directors voted 9-1 to move the New York Giants to San Francisco.

On October 8, 1957, The Walter O'Malley and Brooklyn Dodgers would follow the lead, moving from Brooklyn to Los Angeles, California. END OF AN ERA.                                                   

Highlights: President Eisenhower in a speech before the US to calm fears on Russian Sputnik, US plans to accelerate research and space program appoints Dr. James Killian as special assistant on science to avoid research waste, Russians celebrate their 40th anniversary, display military might, Secretary of State Dulles rejects Khrushchev's high-level talks.                        

Highlights: French crisis continues, De Gaulle followers in Corsica, right-wing civilians and paratroopers seize the government, Junta trio in Algeria pledge to seek De Gaulle into power, the trio includes Jacque  Soustelle and General Jacque Massu, Paris calls it an insurrection, Lebanon claims UAR interferes with its internal affairs.                          

Highlights: Russia agrees to President Eisenhower's suggestion on nuclear testing detection, presidential assistant Sherman Adams queried on the acceptance of gifts from industrialist Bernard Goldfine, congressman comments on Adams affair.
            

Highlights: Sherman Adams scandal charges; says he's innocent but used poor judgment, President Eisenhower receives a vicuna coat from Bernard Goldfine, Senator John Kennedy introduces a bill to curb union money activities, Secretary Dulles says troops will be sent to Lebanon to maintain that country's independence, Hungary executes four leaders of the 1956 revolt including Premier Imre Nagy.                                      

The US Senate votes to make Alaska the 49th state, comment on 49 star flag design, the Supreme Court overules a $1 million dollar fine against the NAACP, more on Sherman Adams- Bernard Goldfine scandal, CBS newsman Daniel Schorr is expelled from Russia, Nelson Rockefeller wants to run for Governor of New York against Leonard Hall.                           

Highlights: Middle East crisis, a coup in Iraq, King Faisal was overthrown, situation to be discussed at the UN, US may send troops to Lebanon and Jordan under the Eisenhower doctrine, Cuban rebels under Fidel Castro hold US servicemen in mountains.


                               

Highlights: A Jersey Central train falls off a bridge into the water killing 40, interviews with survivors, Formosan crisis concerning offshore islands of Quemoy and Matsu.            

Highlights: the US prepares to fire another rocket to the moon, Rudolf Bing fires singer Maria Callas from the Metropolitan Opera House because of her temperament, Governor Averell Harriman agrees with New York City Mayor Robert Wagner on"bossism" in New York City.              

Russian rocket passes within 5,000 miles of the moon and will possibly orbit the Sun, President Eisenhower congratulates Khrushchev, Havana awaits Fidel Castro, provisional government to be established.             

Highlights: Claire Booth Luce's appointment as ambassador to Brazil under fire due to her sharp criticism of Senators,
she claims Senator Morse was kicked in the head by a hose, Eisenhower defends her appointment, ex-President Truman visits New York City and comments on future presidents, Senate passes Senator Kennedy's labor bill to possibly replace the Taft-Hartley act.            

Highlights: Report of television quiz show fixing investigation under question, US protests Castro possible seizure of land without compensation to US owners.                                                    

Highlights: Khrushchev in Washington will come to New York City via train, extreme security precautions taken, Khrushchev tours Washington, Red China denied admission to the UN.                        

Highlights: Khrushchev in New York City, talks of the economic club, the city gives cool reception to arrival of Khrushchev, Khrushchev again praises President Eisenhower for inviting him to America, Mrs. Khrushchev sees the play "Music Man", anti-Khrushchev demonstration at Carnegie Hall.

Convicted robber, kidnapper and rapist, Caryl Chessman, sentenced 
to death for a series of crimes committed in January 1948 in the Los Angeles area, gets a 60 day reprieve. 

NOTE: Caryl Chessman will be executed on May 2, 1960.                       

Highlights: Summit crisis, Eisenhower accuses Khrushchev of deliberately trying to wreck it, Senator Lyndon Johnson comments on the crisis. Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt with comments on New York City Mayor Robert Wagner.                       

Highlights: The summit meeting is shattered, Khrushchev hints at signing a separate peace treaty with East Germany, Vice President Nixon comments on summit fiasco, Khrushchev will boycott all summit talks until Eisenhower apologizes, in the Maryland primary, Senator Kennedy leads over Senator Morse, Mayor Wagner says Kennedy could win New York delegates.                            

Highlights: Khrushchev creates a wild scene at the UN, attacks the Philippine delegate, and calls him a jerk, a stooge of American Imperialism, accompanied by his shoe banging, A sailor from Khrushchev ship "Baltica" seeks asylum, a bomb explodes in the Times Square shuttle station.
