A salute to the city of New York kicks off Jerry Lewis's 11th fund-raising campaign for Muscular Dystrophy from the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas. Celebrities scheduled to join in the tribute include New York anchorman Buddy Hackett, New York City Mayor John V. Lindsay, Jack Albertson, Hermione Gingold, Ed McMahon, Rita Moreno, Barbara Walters, Earl Wilson, the members of Broadway casts and WNEW radio disc jockeys. Other guests scheduled to appear include Jan Murray, who does the honors in Hollywood, Roy Clark, who hosts the Nashville Segment, and Don Adams, Muhammad Ali, Steve Allen, Jayne Meadows, Ruth Buzzi, Carol Burnett, Johnny Cash, John Cassavetes, Joan Crawford, Sammy Davis Jr, Bob Denver, Mike Douglas, Peter Falk, Glenn Ford, Robert Goulet, Curt Gowdy, Merv Griffin, Richie Havens, Helen Hayes, BB King, Jack Klugman, Hope Lange, Carol Lawrence Johnny Mathis, Luci Nugent, Hugh O'Brian, Patti Page, Arnold Palmer, Minnie Pearl, Don Rickles, Richard Roundtree, Leslie Uggams, Sarah Vaughan,Dionne Warwick and Roy Wilkens.  
The broadcast begins at 9 PM Eastern time on September 2nd, 1973 and concludes on September 3rd, 1973 at 6:30 PM Eastern time. This was the first time the telethon was telecast from Las Vegas.
