A LIVE SPECIAL BROADCAST, presented on "US STEEL HOUR." A series of adventures in the life of Tom Sawyer. The adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain's famous teenage Missourians, are set to music in this new adaptation of the classic novel. A series of adventures in the life of Tom Sawyer include a schoolroom scene where, despite having fought with Becky earlier, Tom confesses to tearing a page in the teacher's anatomy book and takes the punishment to save Becky. Tom Whitewashing the fence as punishment for his truancy, were he cons his friends into doing most of the work; Tom and Huck witnessing their own funeral after running off to play pirates and being thought dead; Tom testifying in the trial of Muff Potter that Injun Joe did the crime; and Tom and Becky's scary time in the caves, where they get lost from the others and cannot find their way out for several days, and Tom's once encounter with Injun Joe. Based on the Mark Twain novel of 1876, this broadcast was carried along by the narrative ballads, dance numbers and an incredible number of songs, the last two not included / archived in this rare audio air check. Jimmy Boyd who played Huck in this show also starred in the later production of Huck Finn. Pinocchio is a fictional character and the protagonist of the children's novel, "The Adventures Of Pinocchio" (1883) by Italian writer Carlo Collodi of Florence, Tuscany. Pinocchio was carved by a woodcarver named Geppetto in a Tuscan village. Pinocchio is known for his long nose which grows when he lies. This 1957 adaptation stars Mickey Rooney, Walter Slezak, Stubby Kaye, and a cast of others. Collodi's classic children's story seen in a one-hour TV version, a verse play with music. The story is of "Geppetto, an old carpenter with only a cat as a friend. Lonely, he fashions out of wood a little boy, who magically is able to walk and talk and be a companion to Geppetto. But he's naughty too and his guardian angel tells him he has but a year and a day to conquer his greed; after which he may become a real, human little boy. Yasha Frank wrote the script and is staging the production. Music by Alec Wilder, lyrics by William Engvick. Glen Osser conducts. Mickey Rooney heads a cast of stars.
