January 12, 1926-November 25, 1960 (radio); June 28, 1951-June 11, 1953 (television). "Amos 'n' Andy," one of the most popular and long-running radio programs of all time, was brought to television in the summer of 1951 by Freeman Gosden & Charles Correll. When the show was cancelled, 65 episodes  had been produced. An additional 13 episodes were then filmed to be added to the syndicated re-run package. These 13 episodes first aired on CBS television beginning on January 4, 1955. Note: "Amos 'n' Andy" used three 35mm cameras to film each episode prior to "I Love Lucy," most often given credit for first using this TV revolutionary three camera approach. "I Love Lucy" premiered on October 15, 1951. Today, 74 of the 78 "Amos 'n' Andy" episodes are available & sold on DVD. However, four episodes remain mysteriously absent: "Andy Goes In Business," "Race Horse," "Sapphire's Mysterious Admirer," and "Restitution." Archival Television Audio recorded one of these missing episodes off the air Dec. 28, 1961 - "Restitution." 
While trying to do a good deed, Kingfish ends up becoming a fugitive from justice. Joined in progress. Only a 6:10-minute excerpt was recorded off the air, but inaccessible to the public for over half a  century.

Andy's guests for his first special (Williams had 19 TV specials from 1962-1987) are Dick Van Dyke, Andy Griffith and Ann-Margret. The theme is "today," as Andy and all demonstrate a little "contemporary nostalgia" via comedy sketches and song. 
  Andy Griffith delivers a speech at the UN; Dick Van Dyke and Ann-Margret examine the world of teenagers; the two Andy's get together for some bachelor philosophy.

No copy of this show is known to exist. When Andy Williams teamed up with Ann-Margret in 2004 for shows in Branson, Missouri he tried to find a copy to include clips from their 1962 appearance. NBC didn't have a copy of the color videotape nor did the shows producers or any of the TV archives.

President Kennedy talks to West Point graduates on Military might, us considers sending troops to Laos, A special report from Al Mann in Los Angeles, Richard Nixon on the political comeback trail leads in the California Primary, assured the GOP nomination for Governor of California, Governor Pat Brown comments on the forthcoming campaign, Bridget Bardot's marriage is breaking up, reminiscing on the 18th anniversary of Normandy Beach. An interview with Sam Karpa, a World War !! veteran involved in the D-Day landing. The veteran recalls the 1944 landing and strafing error by US planes. A special report from John Scully in Washington, D.C.                                                                                                                     

The Russians orbit a spaceman, Cosmonaut Andriyan Nikolayev, possibility of a long space flight, Dr. Robert Soblen still in a British prison, youths charged with "glue sniffing," the Russians accuse the West with provocative actions on the Berlin Wall, Bill Lawrence reports.                                                  

Howard Cosell and Rocky Marciano broadcast live radio network boxing coverage. Pre-fight interviews with Sonny Liston, Barney Ross, Joe Louis, James Braddock, Gene Fullmer and Floyd Patterson. Predictions are heard on the outcome of the fight from many sports columnists at ring side in Comiskey Park in Chicago. Jack Drees calls the fight round by round. Mickey Allen sings the National Anthem prior to the 2 minutes, 6 seconds first round knockout of Patterson by the new Heavyweight Champion, Sonny Liston. Post-fight comments from all, including Floyd Patterson's mother. There is a TRIG Deodorant commercial by Chris Schenkel and from Liston's dressing room, Sonny comments regarding a return match.

US ships are ready to intercept oncoming Soviet ships to Cuba, the OAS backs US action, the Soviets say the US action is a step toward nuclear war, Castro charges the US "act of war" Khrushchev believed to give "go-through" order on his ship, a war-time atmosphere in Washington, DC.                         

Blockade official, will stop ships en route to Cuba, hint Russian ships will run through the blockade, a report from Moscow, Castro calls Kennedy a "pirate" will not allow inspectors to Cuba.            

Topics: The US intercepts a Soviet ship and lets it pass on to Cuba with its oil cargo, UN negotiations underway with face-saving suggestions by Soviets and the US, anti-US demonstrations throughout the world including Harvard University, the Chinese Reds press further into India, a new report- a dozen Russian ships turn back.            

Topics: thirteen Soviet vessels steam for Cuba, President Kennedy cancels a trip to Brazil, the White House wants the complete elimination of missile bases in Cuba, its believed there is no Russian blockade of Berlin.             

Khrushchev says President Kennedy took reasonable steps in avoiding an incident with Soviet ships, Khrushchev tells President Kennedy he will withdraw offensive weapons from Cuba if the US withdraws its rockets from Turkey, Khrushchev calls for US negotiations, the UN to visit Turkey and Cuba.                                      

Cuban crisis: President Kennedy sends a letter to Khrushchev stating that Soviets must remove offensive weapons from Cuba under US auspices, the US will then remove the naval blockade, 
confusion on diplomatic letter from Moscow to the US a possible diplomatic flip-flop, a cause for optimism is evident in the crisis.                         

Comment on Khrushchev backdown.

On hand to discuss his art and character are actress Gloria Swanson (the only actress ever fired off a Chaplin movie...Swanson explains), Hollis Alpert, film critic for the Saturday Review,  Archer Winston, movie critic for the new York Post; and A. Edward Sutherland, an early collaborator of Chaplin's, second unit directing two of his films, A Woman in Paris (1923) and The Gold Rush (1925). 

Plenty of personal anecdotes are remembered and critical appraisal of some of his films. Also discussed topics related to Chaplin's early childhood, his first films in Hollywood, his later career and banishment from the US.

Danny Kaye makes an unscheduled appearance.He chats with Andy and plugs his upcoming NBC television special with guest star, Lucille Ball on November, 11th. Kaye praises Andy for his own Series and states that when he begins his new Series,(Sept 25th,1963}, he would like to have Andy appear as his guest.
